About the event

On March 28th , 2014 , FEBAB and the University of São Paulo (Information Science Department of the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters of Ribeirão Preto and supported by the Integrated Library System) will be commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Latin American and Caribbean Section of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions – IFLA / LAC , with the seminar “Tradition and Innovation Cooperation : New Frontiers of access” which aims to discuss recent trends in management, availability, quality and use of information on investigations carried out in the area of Science, seeking to bring together researchers, managers of educational and research institutions, representatives of funding agencies, evaluators, librarians, ICT specialists and decision makers in different areas. Within this context, to recover the history of the development impact of projects in the region and still observe itself how IFLA/LAC has acted and encouraging the development of Latin American and Caribbean librarianship, offering a great opportunity and certainly awaken much interest.

Two other events will take place in São Paulo, Brazil, in the week preceding the said seminar, they are:

1) Workshop “Strengthening Library Associations” – attending to BSLA Program (Building Strong Library Associations) coordinated by IFLA sponsored by the Melinda Gates Foundation and oriented to managers, class library institutions in Latin America and the Caribbean. 2) Intermediary Section Meeting for Latin America and the Caribbean IFLA – ( From March 26th to 27th, 2014) , which takes place every March in a different country in the region, bringing its Standing Committee plan, evaluate and give continuity to the actions proposed by the IFLA Section for and prepare the agenda of the next meeting of the IFLA/ LAC and the Open Section concerning Latin America and the Caribbean Official Conference Yearly IFLA Program, both taking place next August, in the Congress of 2014 in Lyon, France.

Such events foster the visit to Brazil and more specifically to the USP, over thirty professional librarians from different countries, with the highest concentration in Latin America.

It will be a great pleasure to welcome all and look forward to providing an enabling environment to share knowledge, establish new friendships and strengthening the scientific and professional networking environment.
